Building Bridges for the Future

About the Project

What is Building Bridges for the Future about?

On the initiative of Elke Büdenbender, judge and wife of the German Federal President Dr. Frank-Walter Steinmeier, and former Federal Minister Brigitte Zypries, the German-Israeli Future Forum Foundation (DIZF) and the Leo Baeck Institute Jerusalem (LBI) have launched the Building Bridges for the Future program, which is being implemented in cooperation with the German Confederation of Skilled Crafts (ZDH) and funded by the Federal Foreign Office (AA).

Building Bridges for the Future aims to highlight the importance of the skilled trades in Israel and Germany and is expanding bilateral relations through a targeted exchange program for young trainees and craftspeople in both countries. As part of the exchange, the participants, who come from different trades, share their expertise and gain professional experience together. The starting project is the renovation of the Leo Baeck Institute in Jerusalem.

The long-term goal of "Building Bridges for the Future" is to create sustainable structures for a German Israeli exchange in the fields of crafts and construction. We not only want to honor and support the skilled crafts as an important pillar of our two societies but also enrich Israeli German relations with an aspect that has been underrepresented to date.
